Leading Worship

"Let the little children come near," Jesus said — he knew that the story he was living, though confounding many adults, would be delightful to the littlest ones. 

We see this every day in worship. The children come close to Jesus in the telling of God's story, delighting in God's word. We come even closer in Lent, drawing the stories in a prayerful way. Now that we have reached Holy Week, the children take on the storytelling role as they take on the role of the disciples and other figures in these holy stories. 

"Have faith like a child," he said later, "and the Kingdom of God is yours." 

They have worked very hard rehearsing the worship story to share with you and to give it to God like a prayer. Their storytelling has been a blessing to us. 

FRIDAY: THE PALM CELEBRATION 

Jesus arrives in Jerusalem. He is welcomed as a king with palms 
and shouts of Hosanna!

MONDAY: THE LAST SUPPER & THE WASHING OF THE FEET

Jesus shares bread and wine and washes the disciples' feet.

TUESDAY: THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE 

The disciples sleep when Jesus asks them to stay awake with him to pray.
They run away when they should follow Juses.

WEDNESDAY: DEATH AND RESSURECTION

Jesus is crucified and buried. The women who love Jesus discover the empty tomb.

Taking on roles of leadership, remembering prompts and directions, practicing restraint and stillness, being brave and having all eyes on them, telling a story with our bodies ... these are all exciting, difficult, and tiring things for three-, four-, and five-year-olds. They are working hard at school

In the days where we have led the worship story, the children have been drawing their prayers later in the day. The children will bring home their worship stories in book form on Thursday. 

It is good to hear a happy end to this story when there were so many sad parts.
