On Wednesdays, the full day children have afternoon art. We have been working on our squirrel that the Sky and Trees students have been creating out of clay. Lots of hard work has been done to add lots of details, including hairs on the tail of the squirrel, nails on the fingers and toes, and whiskers!
Now that all of this work has been done to mold our squirrel, it is time to prime it in preparation for painting.
Before the priming began, Mr. Johnson showed us how to stipple the primer onto the figure. This was a new word to many of us, and we watched Mr. Johnson show us how to get in all of the creases and details with the primer by stippling. We stipple by pushing the bristles of the brush into all of the cracks in an up and down motion.
Finally, it was our turn to try!

We have also been brainstorming names for our squirrel in class, and soon we will vote to choose one. Check back in the next few weeks to see the name that we choose and our finished, painted squirrel friend!
