The End is Near — Part 1

The end of a school year and an oncoming vacation can be quite a big idea for four- and five-year-olds to wrap their mind around.  The fact that not everybody has the same plan next year can also be confusing, or even a little bit scary.  

As you may have noticed, this anticipation can lead to elevated emotions and behaviors as we near the close of the year.  

In the Sky and Trees Classes, we have been using very simple language to help create clarity and peaceful hearts as we anticipate all of this change.

1. We are going to have a big break from school soon, it is called summer vacation.

2.  After summer vacation, we don't all have the same plan.  Your parents and your teachers have come up with the best plan for each one of you.

   a.  Some children will come back to the same classroom.

   b.  Some children will move to the Sky or Trees Classroom.

   c.  Some children will go to kindergarten.

   d.  Some children will go to a new school.

   e.  There might be children that you know in your  classroom, and there might be children that you do not know in your classroom.

Children benefit from having these sort of conversations more than once.  Using this language will echo what they have heard at school.

There is still much good work left to be done in these last weeks. Conversations like this clear our mind of worry and questions to make room for the work at hand.
