Sky Class: Interviewing the Experts

This week the Sky Class interviewed experts in robotics and the human body to do research on their topics.

First they spoke with one of our school nurses, Ms. Magaletta, who answered questions about how the heart beats and why humans can't turn their heads 360 degrees.

The next day, the children met 
with Zoe Morozko, an engineer at NASA 
(and a former Mustard Seed School student!).

The children learned that robots send information 

back to the user and make they work easier for humans.

They also learned about the two steps to designing a robot:

1. Decide what your robot needs to do.

2. What does your robot need to do that job?



Next week... the building will begin!

Meanwhile, the children continued to design, 
build, and draw more robots.

They also practiced their drawing skills by doing some observational drawings of robots. 

Looking at details does make a difference!

They practiced designing a robot for a purpose and then thinking about what parts needed to move.

Children worked hard to push fasteners through two pieces of paper to attach the parts and make them move.

The children also started using tiny pip-squeak markers to prepare for more handwriting practice in the coming weeks!

Of course, the rest of the day is exciting, too.
