The Trees Class Goes to the Post Office!

Sometimes a frustrating situation turns out to be a gift. 

When we said goodbye to two good friends a few weeks ago, not only were many of the Trees Class children out sick, but the friends had to leave earlier than planned.  Their goodbye books were not finished. We quickly gathered their things from around the classroom and prayed with them. 

But when it came to the goodbye book we had been working on, we simply spread out what was finished on the floor and read them what we had — A preview of the goodbye book we were close to finishing. 

One friend excitedly said that we could all bring it to them when the books were done,"...and all have a sleepover!"

Then the other suggested a slightly more practical approach... 

"You could mail them to us." 

The eyes of the children lit up! 

As a parting gift, the boys had given us the gift of a very fun project. 

First, we had to finish the books, so we did that ...

"I like to dig with you."

Then we had to figure out how to mail them.

The children decided that boxes would work best....

And we had to figure out how to put them together. 

This took a while, but we got there. 

Eventually. 

Then Ms. Jordan taped up the bottoms with a very exciting tape machine. 

The next day we packed up the boxes — One for each friend! We put in the goodbye books, the valentines that they had not been able to take home ...

... extra clothing, 
and friendship notes we had written in the interim ...

Until they were full!

 Then the children wondered how the postal service worker would know where to take them.

We decided to send an email to ask our friends for their new address  — the next day we had an email back! 

The children made sure I started my letters at the top while I wrote the address, and then they taped them on the boxes.

Then it was off to the post office! 

 

They said the packages would arrive on Saturday! 

What a wonderful way to celebrate two wonderful friendships...

And what a wonderful project to let them know how much they love us.
