The children have been playing with forms--big lines and little lines, big curves and little curves. They are beginning to move from open-ended play and creative play with these into thinking more about how these forms are used to construct letters.
Some have been preparing the forms for the next level of work, really getting a multi-sensory feel for the different shapes by sanding and cleaning the wooden pieces.
Some have been playing with the forms in new spaces in the classroom and noticing when letters appear in their structures. They turn letters into other designs and then morph the forms back into letters.
Some have been working on writing the letters of their names, seeing how the lines and curves work together.
